Students are invited to join the newly formed VMU Folklore Ensemble “Linago”
We invite students to join the newly formed Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) folklore ensemble “Linago”! All students are welcome to learn a variety of sonorous Lithuanian folk songs, sophisticated Liithuanian polyphonic part-song, play the kanklės, and blow on traditional Lithuanian instruments such as the skudučiai and tošiniai ragai. Those who join the folklore ensemble will enjoy concerts, projects, trips, and fun rehearsals every week.
Giedrė Tutkutė, the new director of “Linago”, shares her plans for the ensemble and her determination to work hard: “Since its foundation in 1991, “Linago” has been a close and warm community, united by tradition and folk music. As the head of the ensemble, I hope to rebuild the ensemble, continue bringing together like-minded people, and establish traditions with new members.”

The new head of the ensemble promises that members will work together to create a cozy atmosphere, a good mood, and a resonant space. It doesn’t matter if a student knows how to sing or play an instrument; if they are even a little bit interested in Lithuanian folk culture, Giedrė invites them to join the ensemble and cherish and enjoy Lithuanian traditions and cultural heritage together.
Rehearsals for “Linago” will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 19:00 to 21:00 at Vytauto Ave. 71-105, Kaunas (Arts Centre space in VMU dormitory “Baltija”). The first rehearsal will take place on September 5, so you are welcome to join us and get to know the new head and the other members of the ensemble.
As a reminder, you can sign up for the Arts Centre’s ensembles throughout the autumn term, and you can find all the information you need to sign up for the ensemble of your choice here.
